Harriers scrape past Cinderford
Kidderminster have won 2-1 in Gloucestershire this evening by beating Southern League Western Division 1 side Cinderford Town. Goals from full-back Johnny Harkness and winger Michael McGrath gave Harriers the advantage before Cinderford hit back.
Rookie goalkeeper Steve Taylor, who played the whole game, was Harriers saviour as he saved TWO Cinderford penalties.
Harriers included veteran former Leicester full-back Rob Ullathorne in the squad and the defender started the game for Harriers.
Harriers used over 20 players and other triallists involved included Anthony Edkins, Mark Preece, Brian Smikle and Jordan Fitzpatrick. Bob Taylor again featured and Dean Sturridge also started his first game in a Kidderminster shirt.
Harriers boss Mark Yates was quick to put the emphasis on fitness at this stage of pre-season but was pleased that his players had been in a match. He said:
It was important everyone got something out of the 45 minutes they had, and expressed themselves, thats the main thing at the moment.
Harriers face former Conference rivals Bromsgrove Rovers in another pre-season game on Sunday. The trip to Victoria Road will be reminder of the battles between Rovers and Kiddy in the 90's and will emphasise the different directions both clubs have gone since those days.
